Administration

Our admin focused crews perform a variety of tasks including money handling, organizing and tracking. We're looking for organized folks who work well with others.

This crew is for the accountant in all of us. If you are organized, good with numbers and have a keen eye for detail, you will feel right at home with the Admin crew.

THE JOB:

  • Handle incoming cash
  • Cash reconciliation and data entry on the computer
  • Prepare and distribute cash floats
  • Prepare bank deposit forms
  • Complete forms for security firm for delivery and pick up of cash

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 18 years of age
  • Comfort handling cash
  • Proficient in the use of technical devices (computer, POS system)
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience in bookkeeping, accounting, banking, or payroll is an asset
  • Background check will be required every 3 years
  • Comfort working indoors for all shifts

THE CREW: The ability to communicate quickly and effectively is a huge contributing factor to the success of our festival. The Communications crew is responsible for supplying, maintaining and training volunteers for the use of communication devices during festival weekend.

THE TASKS:

  • Set-up of site communication centre
  • Take inventory of and label outgoing devices
  • Instruct volunteers on the proper use of radios and cell phones
  • Dispatch radios and cell phones for the weekend
  • Distribute radio channel and site phone number lists
  • Ensure all radios and spare batteries are charged and ready 
  • Ensure equipment is signed in and out properly

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 18 years of age
  • Proficient in the use of technical devices & equipment (radios, cellphones)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment

THE CREW: This crew is a helping hand to the festival staff. It is for those who love the administrative world and can handle a variety of tasks.

THE TASKS:

  • Reception coverage
  • Photocopying, word processing, organizing, sorting and other related office duties
  • Assist with special projects

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 18 years of age
  • Working with the public; strong customer service skills
  • Comfort working with technology (computers)
  • Daytime availability & evenings during the last two weeks leading up to the festival (for crew meetings)
  • Lifting may be required for some tasks

*As a pre-festival crew, volunteers are required to work a minimum of 48 hours. Most shifts take place prior to festival however there are a handful of tasks that occur after the festival to wrap things up. 

THE CREW: This crew is responsible for the copy & design of the festival favourite program book.

THE TASKS:

  • Writing biographies, using material provided and checking internet websites if needed
  • Obtaining material from contributors (ads and included written articles)
  • Editing & proofreading
  • Writing additional materials as required
  • Working alongside other volunteers to create the layout and content for the book

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 18 years of age
  • Proficient in the use of technical devices, equipment & desktop publishing
  • Strong writing skills
  • Strong editing, layout and print experience

* As a pre-festival crew, volunteers are required to work a minimum of 48 hours leading up to the festival. 

Food Services

Volunteers working with food are generally placed on one of our sub-crews in the Festival Kitchen but other areas include Concessions crew. Our Site Kitchen and Site Kitchen Sous crews focus their time before and after the Festival. Some positions require food handling and cooking experience, while others do not. Lifting and standing is required in all of these roles.

THE CREW: Aside from music, the festival is known for its amazing selection of good eats! Concessions crew helps liaise between the festival and the many concessionaires.

THE TASKS:

  • Set up and teardown of concession area
  • Maintaining security of area, between pedestrian and vehicle traffic
  • Ensuring the adherence to health and safety regulations, power consumption, water usage, water disposal, loading and unloading
  • Liaising with concessionaires

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 18 years of age
  • This is an active role including lifting, walking and standing for periods at a time
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced environment
  • Working with the public; strong customer service skills
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and the Festival is an asset
  • Experience working in the service industry is an asset

THE CREW:  This crew ensures there is a selection of warm and cold beverages available throughout the weekend for volunteers and artists.

THE TASKS:

  • Keep the beverages flowing
  • Sell reusable mugs and cutlery

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 16 years of age
  • Successfully complete Food Safety Course (online & free)
  • This is an active role including heavy lifting, walking or standing for periods at a time
  • Love for high-energy and community-filled environments
  • Comfortable with repetitive work
  • Cooking and hospitality experience is an asset

THE CREW: This crew is responsible for the inventory and storage of food and supplies needed by all kitchen crews.

THE TASKS:

  • Receive and organize orders 
  • Assist in other areas of the kitchen when needed
  • Food and Beverage handling

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 16 years of age
  • This is an active role including heavy lifting, walking or standing for periods at a time
  • Successfully complete Food Safety Course (online & free)
  • A love for high-energy and community-filled environments
  • Work well with others and good communication skills

THE CREW: The role of this crew is pretty sweet (pun-intended)! They prep, bake, plate and serve dessert for every festival meal.

THE TASKS:

  • Prep, bake and serve a variety of desserts 
  • Make and slice bread, squares and pastries
  • Pull supplies

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 16 years of age
  • Successfully complete Food Safety Course (online & free)
  • This is an active role including heavy lifting, walking or standing for periods at a time
  • Be comfortable with repetitive work
  • Cooking, baking and/or  hospitality experience is an asset

THE CREW: This crew is responsible for keeping the festival kitchen clean and food-safe!

THE TASKS:

  • Sweep and mop floors
  • Wash, dry, fold and put away aprons / cleaning cloths
  • Wash and sanitize tables and chairs in the dining tent
  • Refill paper towels and soap dispensers

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 16 years of age

The CREW: Our KP (Kitchen Patrol) crew takes care of the many pots, pans and dishes it takes to create meals throughout the festival. 

THE TASKS: 

  • Scrape and rinse all serving dishes and cookware 
  • Wash and sanitize all kitchen tools and utensils

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 16 years of age

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

The CREW: The Main Course Crew keeps thousands of volunteers and performers happy and well fed. They slice, dice, stir and mix delicious meals throughout the weekend for us all to enjoy.

THE TASKS:

  • Season, chop, cut, prep, thaw and cook food
  • Work as a team to prepare main course items from recipes created by the chef

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 16 years of age

  • Food and beverage handling
  • Be able to work in a team environment

THE CREW: Our Platter crew ensures volunteers and artists who are positioned remotely are fed.

THE TASKS:

  • Review platter requests
  • Assemble trays with sandwiches, fruit, veggies, cheese, crackers and desserts

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 16 years of age

THE CREW: This small crew makes and serves the wide variety of salads in the festival kitchen.

THE TASKS:

  • Chop and dice ingredients for a variety of salads
  • Prepare salads fresh daily
  • Make a variety of salad dressings

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 16 years of age

  • Successfully complete Food Safety Course (online & free)

THE CREW: Serving Line volunteers greet all volunteers, artists and sponsors at the kitchen door during meal times, hand out plates and direct traffic and serve the main course!

THE TASKS:

  • Greet and distribute plates to volunteers upon entry
  • Punch volunteer badges for every meal
  • Ensure condiments and utensils are stocked during meal service
  • Set up serving area with condiments and utensils 
  • Run menu items from the kitchen to serving table during service
  • Serve main course and bread to volunteers
  • Assist Salad and Platter crew with meal preparation when needed

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 16 years of age

THE CREW: The Site Kitchen crew ensures that volunteers are fed and happy throughout their pre-festival shifts.

THE TASKS:

  • Cook and prepare food
  • Wash dishes
  • Clean the general Site Kitchen and dining area
  • Maintain water and juice for the Site crew during pre and post-festival

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 16 years of age
  • This is an active role including heavy lifting, walking or standing for periods at a time
  • Successfully complete Food Safety Course (online & free)
  • Training and/or experience in the preparation of meals for large groups is an asset
  • Cooking and/or hospitality experience is an asset
  • Flexibility with pre-festival shifts

THE CREW: This crew's focus is to build, prep and organize the Festival Kitchen so it is ready for our cooking crews.

THE TASKS:

  • Sanitize and clean festival kitchen equipment and ensure it is in working order
  • Set up prep, service and cooking areas
  • Assist site kitchen as necessary

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 18 years of age
  • This is an active role including heavy lifting, walking or standing for periods at a time
  • Work in a team environment
  • Flexibility with pre-festival shifts

Hospitality

There's a lot of hosting happening in the background! From parties to shuttle service, we require folks who want to make the volunteer and performer experience the very best. Customer service experience, thinking on your feet and problem solving are assets for all these crews.

THE CREW: The Airport crew is the first point of contact for many of our Festival guests arriving by plane, offering a welcoming experience outside of the Festival grounds!

THE TASKS:

  • Operate a 12 to 15 passenger van
  • Shuttle Festival guests to and from YEG International Airport and host hotel downtown
  • Assist with baggage collection and loading items into the vans
  • Interact with Festival guests and answer festival related questions

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 25 years of age
  • This is an active role including heavy lifting
  • Have a valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract (reviewed every 2 years)
  • Ability to drive safely with potential distractions
  • Working with the public; strong customer service skills
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing situations and schedules
  • Professionalism and confidentiality are essential in this role
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to sit for periods of time

THE CREW: The Hotel Hospitality crew plays an integral part welcoming our guests and being a resource for all festival related knowledge.

THE TASKS:

  • Greet guests at the Hotel Hospitality suite  and provide a welcoming environment
  • Provide appropriate accreditation to each guest
  • Prep information packages for guests 
  • Answer questions and provide information about the festival and city to guests
  • Keep the hospitality suite organized, clean and inviting
  • Change out service trays and replenish snacks as needed

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 18 years of age
  • Working with the public; strong customer service skills
  • Comfort handling cash
  • Crew members must be available the Sunday of the long weekend before the festival
  • Mandatory crew training Wednesday evening of festival week
  • Availability for set up on Wednesday of festival or teardown on Monday post-festival in addition to festival hours
  • Proficient in the use of technology (computers and printers)
  • Attention to detail and the ability to source information as needed for guests
  • Must be available from 8 am - 12 am for duration of festival
  • Professionalism and confidentiality are essential in this role
  • Hospitality experience is an asset

  • Ability to driving a larger vehicle (Large SUV or passenger van) is an asset

THE CREW: Instrument Lockup Crew is responsible for tagging and securing instruments throughout the festival weekend.

THE TASKS:

  • Responsible for tagging and safely storing all instruments on-site
  • Ensuring instruments are only distributed to appropriate parties

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 16 years of age
  • This is an active role including heavy lifting, walking or standing for periods at a time
  • Working with the public; strong customer service skills
  • Organization skills and attention to detail is an asset
  • Knowledge of instruments and gear is an asset
  • Fluency in other languages is an asset

THE CREW: The Media Crew is the main point of contact for all media outlets visiting the site.

THE TASKS:

  • Arrange and schedule interviews with media
  • Set up performer news conferences
  • Answer questions about the Festival from media
  • Set up & tear down of the media tent

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 18 years of age
  • This is an active role including heavy lifting, walking or standing for periods at a time (during set up and teardown)
  • Working with the public; strong customer service skills
  • Professionalism and confidentiality are essential in this role
  • Comfortable with public speaking

THE CREW:  As a volunteer, you are able to park in a designated parking lot. Parking crew helps ensure the flow of traffic is moving smoothly and directs volunteers to available parking spaces.

THE TASKS:

  • Control the flow of traffic in and out of the parking lot
  • Check accreditation of those parking in the lot
  • Mark parking lot
  • Control the flow of school buses to and from the parking lot to the site

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 18 years of age

  • Must be available Thursday - Sunday of festival

THE CREW: The Party Crew is responsible for the infamous volunteer parties that take place Friday, Saturday, Sunday post-festival at the host hotel.

THE TASKS:

  • Help organize and run festival parties for volunteers and guests
  • Serve beverages/ food
  • Assist with coat check
  • Sell drink tickets 
  • Monitor all entrances and exits

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 18 years of age

  • Bartending and service experience is an asset
  • Comfort using technology (tablet, square reader)
  • ProServe is an asset (opportunity to complete ProServe with festival)
  • Ability to work late/ early hours (Shifts begin at 9:30 pm and can run as late as 4:00 am)

THE CREW: The Performer Hospitality Green Room Crew ensures a safe, friendly and relaxing space for festival guests.

THE TASKS:

  • Setup & teardown of the Green Room area
  • Maintaining supply of food and beverages
  • Answering general questions about the festival and city
  • Acting as an ambassador for the festival
  • Contributing to a friendly and inviting atmosphere

THE REQUIREMENTS:

THE CREW: The Performer Hospitality Reception Crew is the point of contact on-site for festival guests. This crew creates a welcoming and safe environment for all guests while helping facilitate the many aspects involved in the festival.

THE TASKS:

  • Answering general festival questions 
  • Working closely with a variety of crews
  • Fulfilling food/ beverage orders
  • Organizing supplies
  • Driving golf cart for runs
  • Ability to identify guests and provide support and direction as needed
  • Acting as an ambassador for the festival
  • Setup and teardown of the reception area

THE REQUIREMENTS:

THE CREW: The Edmonton Folk Music Festival is world-renowned for its hospitality. The Massage crew provides relaxing massages for artists and guests of the festival.

THE TASKS:

  • Setting up massage area
  • Provide relaxing massages to artists and guests

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A registered massage therapist 
  • Working with the public; strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Professionalism and confidentiality are essential in this role

THE CREW: Our Photography Crew volunteers use their professional photography skills to capture favourite festival moments to be used for promotional use and archival purposes. It is their job to capture memorable moments to be used for promotional use and archival purposes.

THE TASKS:

  • Capture festival moments for use on EFMF social media, website, program book, and for archival purposes
  • Culling images during festival
  • Edit images for Festival use

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum age 18 years of age
  • This is an active role including standing and walking for periods at a time
  • Working with the public; strong customer service skills
  • Proficient in the use of technical devices & equipment
  • Training and experience in photography (please provide examples of your work)
  • Experience in shooting live music is an asset
  • Flexibility with shifts throughout weekend
  • Professionalism is essential in this role

THE CREW: This crew is a great way to share our wonderful city with the Festival guests and volunteers. This crew offers a unique experience outside of the festival grounds!

THE TASKS:

  • Operate a 15 passenger van
  • Shuttle festival guests and volunteers to and from downtown and festival site, throughout festival weekend
  • Assist with loading shuttle (gear, people, etc)
  • Interact with festival guests

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 25 years of age

THE CREW: Our volunteer team is made up of over 2,600 folks! Our Volunteer Services crew is there for our volunteers throughout the weekend, providing them with plenty of hospitality and support.

THE TASKS:

  • Distribution of program books and badges
  • Field general questions
  • Record comments / concerns from volunteers
  • Manage and maintain the volunteer locker
  • Liaise with the Volunteer Managers

THE REQUIREMENTS:

Patron Services

We want to give our patrons a memorable festival experience, and show them how magical the Edmonton Folk Music Festival is. Patron focused crews vary widely. Customer service experience/interest is a requirement, as is standing and walking for periods at a time. These roles are busy, with rapidly changing environments. These shifts fly by!

Festival Liaison 2022

THE CREW: This crew provides assistance to patrons with disabilities or accessibility needs.

THE TASKS:

  • Greeting and guiding patrons with accessibility needs and their caregivers
  • Manage accessibility area(s)

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 18 years of age
  • This is an active role including some lifting, walking or standing for periods at a time
  • Working with the public; strong customer service skills
  • Be able to push a wheelchair, at the request of the patron
  • Experience/training with persons with disabilities

THE CREW: The Bar crews in the Beer Garden facilitate liquor sales and service for thousands of thirsty festival patrons throughout the weekend.

THE TASKS:
The sub crews include:

  • Sales - Processing payment, closing bar
  • Servers - Pouring and serving beers/ other menu items, setting up and the closing bar

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 18 years of age
  • Working with the public; strong customer service skills
  • This is an active role including heavy lifting and standing for periods at a time
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced environment
  • Sales: Comfort using technology (tablets, square reader)
  • Servers: Bartending/ serving experience is an asset
  • Must have or be willing to obtain a ProServe certificate (provided by the festival if not already held)

THE CREW: The mighty Beer Brigade crew roams the beer garden area to help with line control, assist the bar as needed, and help with environmental needs.

THE TASKS:

  • Assist with line control and instruct patrons where to go
  • Empty bins in beer garden area
  • Maintain and tidy beer garden area
  • Assist bar with various tasks

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 18 years of age

THE CREW: This crew is for the bike and green initiative enthusiast! They make it possible for patrons and volunteers to safely leave their bicycle on site during festival hours.

THE TASKS:

  • Set up and teardown of the Bike Lock Up area
  • Tag bicycles
  • Help instruct patrons where to lock bicycles
  • Maintain security of the area

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 16 years of age
  • This is an active role including some heavy lifting, walking and standing for periods at a time
  • Working with the public; strong customer service skills
  • Familiarity with bikes / being a bike enthusiast is an asset
  • A passion for green initiatives is an asset

THE CREW: Box Office crew prepare patrons for entry into the Festival site with efficiency and friendliness!

THE TASKS:

  • Ticket sales (if applicable)
  • Distribute tickets at will call on site
  • Wristband ripping 
  • Answer general festival questions
  • Account for shift cash-outs
  • Help manage tickets overall
  • Assist with problem solving/ troubleshooting

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 18 years of age

  • Flexibility with some pre-festival shifts & training

THE CREW: Craft crew assists with the selection of festival craft vendors and ensures that their products can shine during festival weekend!

THE TASKS:

  • Attend pre-festival jury sessions to determine which craft applications will be approved
  • Provide input on policy decisions
  • Set up and take down of tables
  • During the Festival weekend, provide liaison support between the Festival and craft vendors
  • Provide information to patrons and vendors

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 16 years of age
  • This is an active role including lifting, walking and standing for periods at a time
  • Working with the public; strong customer service skills
  • Knowledge of local arts and crafts is an asset
  • Availability in April for jury selection in addition to festival shifts

THE CREW: The Face Painting tent is a popular stop for kids of all ages throughout the festival weekend!

THE TASKS:

  • Painting the faces and arms of (primarily) children during the festival

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 16 years of age
  • Friendly and enjoy working with the public, especially children
  • Experience in face painting or other artistic experience
  • Responsible with good time management skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced environment
  • Experience working with children is an asset
  • First Aid and CPR is an asset

THE CREW: The Family crew brings all the fun for the festival kiddos to enjoy every year! This crew organizes and supervises our popular family area on Saturday and Sunday (9am-6pm).

THE TASKS:

  • Interact with children and guardians in family area
  • Supervise the games area
  • Participate in storytelling and crafts 
  • Supervise wading pool
  • Create a fun experience for children!

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 16 years of age
  • This is an active role including lifting, walking and standing for periods at a time
  • Experience working with children
  • Training/ experience in crafts or storytelling are an asset
  • Availability to complete two teardown shifts (shifts during the festival are reduced and therefore made up post-festival)
  • First Aid and CPR training is an asset
  • A basic background check must be completed every 3 years

THE CREW: These volunteers are the festival peacekeepers - they build relationships with patrons, work on conflict resolution, and generally ensure everyone is having an enjoyable, safe experience.

THE TASKS:

  • Roam the site and chat with patrons/ volunteers
  • Conflict resolution as necessary
  • Assist volunteers in other safety/access related roles
  • Work with First Aid to facilitate response to medical emergencies
  • Radio communication and liaising with other volunteer crews

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 18 years of age
  • This is an active role including walking and standing for periods at a time
  • Working with the public; strong customer service skills
  • ProServe and ProTect training are an asset
  • First Aid and CPR are an asset
  • Conflict resolution training is an asset

THE CREW: Accidents happen. Luckily our trained professionals on the First Aid crew make sure that medical attention is provided as needed, ensuring a safe and happy festival site!

THE TASKS:

  • Administering First Aid
  • Assessment of condition and contacting ambulance, if required
  • Prepare incident reports on all non-routine events
  • Liaising with other volunteer crews

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 18 years of age

THE CREW: Looking out at the main stage hill at night is pure magic with thousands of candles flickering. Forever Folk Fest volunteers make the magic happen and sell these candles each night. Proceeds from our candle sales program go directly to the Festival's endowment fund to ensure we can enjoy music on the hill forever.

THE CREW: The Greetings crews are the “warm welcome” of the festival! They can be found running the lottery, maintaining the line ups for site access and greeting the park and ride patrons as they arrive to the festival site. These volunteers are high energy individuals who get people excited about the festival!

  • Organize and maintain the lottery line for the daily festival tarp run
  • Answer a multitude of festival questions
  • Assist patrons entering the festival grounds

THE CREW: The SASS crew is your last stop on your way out of the merch tent! They are responsible for taking payment for festival and artist merchandise.

THE CREW: Extra! Extra! Read all about who is playing where and when. This crew distributes the sought after Program Book during the festival.

THE TASKS:

  • Take inventory of Program Books
  • Sell Program Books to patrons

  • Greet patrons and promote program book sales
  • Youth volunteers assist Coordinator and crew members during busy periods by collecting meals, organizing program books and keeping track of sales

THE CREW: The Public Gate crew is responsible for managing our North/ South gates and are generally the first volunteers that patrons encounter when arriving at Gallagher Park. This crew represents the beginning of a great festival!

THE CREW: Everyone is hoping to win “The Golden Tarp” and you could be the one to sell the golden ticket! Raffle crew is in charge of the organization and distribution of the festival raffle tickets.

THE TASKS:

  • Maintain control of the inventory of raffle tickets
  • Sell raffle tickets to patrons at Raffle Tent and throughout the site
  • Account for sales at end of shift

THE CREW: The Site Environment crew helps promote our green initiatives by ensuring the site is clean and clear!

THE CREW: With the hustle and bustle during the festival weekend, only certain authorized vehicles are able to access the Cloverdale neighborhood to reduce traffic. This crew helps maintain the traffic flow and access in the area.

  • Assist patrons/ answer general festival questions
  • Check for the appropriate parking and vehicle access passes into Cloverdale

Production

Managing the physical site is tough work. Site Production, Beer Garden Production, Signage and the Site Schleppers transform the site itself by completing 48 hours split before and after the festival. Stage and Festival Schleppers complete a minimum of 20 hours during the festival itself. These are highly physical roles, sometimes comprising of repetitive movements, plus standing, walking and lifting. Please keep that in mind!

THE CREW: This crew's primary responsibility is to move stage equipment, but it helps move any and all equipment and materials around the entire site and for any crew that requires such assistance.

THE TASKS:

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 16 years of age

  • Drivers must be a minimum of 25 years with a valid license with a clean driver's abstract

THE CREW: This crew creates the beautiful lanterns that you see in the lantern parade on Friday and Saturday at the festival.

THE TASKS:

  • Building and repairing lanterns pre-festival
  • Participate in lantern parade (Friday/ Saturday night of festival)

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 16 years of age
  • Experience with artistic mediums (ex: sculpture, design, woodworking, painting, etc) is required
  • Availability for pre-festival hours
  • Availability Friday/ Saturday night for lantern parade
  • Completion of 48 volunteer hours

*As a pre-festival crew, volunteers are required to work a minimum of 48 hours. These hours will be completed in the weeks before and during the festival with the majority contributed before the festival dates.

THE CREW: This crew is the festival’s “wayfinding” extraordinaire. They create and place signage effectively so patrons can navigate the festival site with ease. This work occurs pre and post festival so you have the full festival weekend to enjoy.

Signage Production

THE TASKS:

  • Design and layout sign requests from various volunteer crews (including regulatory, directional and informational signage)
  • Produce signs by laying vinyl onto coroplast or other material, adding grommets

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 18 years of age
  • Graphic design experience
  • Experience using adobe creative suite is an asset
  • Availability to complete all hours pre-festival

Signage Installation

THE TASKS: 

  • Implementing and installing signage across site
  • Removing signage post-festival
  • Taking inventory of all signage

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 18 years of age
  • This is an active role including heavy lifting, walking and standing for periods at a time
  • Availability for installation Monday-Friday (Aug 5-9) + Monday, Aug 12 (9am-5pm)

*As a pre-festival crew, volunteers are required to work a minimum of 48 hours. These hours will be completed in the weeks before the festival with some post-festival availability (see Signage Installation requirements).

THE CREW: Our Site crew is responsible for building the small village that is our home during festival weekend. This is the crew for the “jack of all trades” folks and for those who enjoy being outdoors, building, construction and more!

THE TASKS:

  • Set up and teardown of the site including tents, scaffolding, electrical, and fences
  • Hauling equipment and materials to and from the warehouse
  • Perform trade-related duties throughout including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting and welding
  • Communicating and liaising with various volunteer crews

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 18 years of age
  • This is an active role including heavy lifting, walking and standing for periods at a time
  • Have a valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract
  • Trades experience is an asset
  • First Aid/CPR and WHMIS training is an asset
  • Ability to work as a part of a team
  • Strong communication skills

*As a pre-festival crew, volunteers are required to work a minimum of 48 hours. These hours are split into 36 hours pre-festival, 4 hours during festival, and 8 hours post-festival.

THE CREW: Our schleppers are the muscles of the festival (lot’s of carrying and hauling)! They transport construction materials around the festival site and handle general site preparation.

THE TASKS:

  • Transporting materials throughout the festival grounds
    • Some off site deliveries & pick-ups, as required

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 25 years of age
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract
  • Golf cart training
  • Ability to drive safely with potential distractions
  • This is an active role including heavy lifting, walking and standing for periods at a time
  • Availability week prior to festival and post-festival to fulfill 48 hours

THE CREW: The Stage crew makes sure that performers have the gear they need for each performance  so each stage runs smoothly and on time.

THE TASKS:

  • Set up equipment and instruments including set changes
  • Ensure basic hospitality (i.e. water, towels) is provided

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 18 years of age

THE CREW: Lights, camera, action! This crew is responsible for producing the video of main stage performances that are viewed throughout the main stage.

THE TASKS:

  • Operate video cameras using tripods, studio mount and handheld equipment
  • Record switcher output to various VTR formats
  • Switch and direct video cameras for use on large screens and various VTR formats

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 18 years of age
  • Proficient in the use of technical devices & equipment
  • Training and/or experience as a video camera operator, switcher and television director

Safety/ Access

Our safety and access crews are tied in with almost every crew. We aren't aiming for 'bouncers' or any intensive force here. Volunteers on these crews are focused on ensuring everyone is enjoying the festival, that the festival spirit is alive, and that everyone on site is safe. Walking and standing is major for most crews here.

THE CREW: Front of Stage Safety focuses on the area directly in front of Mainstage including the dance area during all evening main stage operating times. They ensure the area stays safe and accessible for all by managing any issues or conflicts. This is a crew focused on patron interaction.

  • Monitor tarps and crowds in front of Mainstage area
  • Manage dance area
  • Remain professional at all times

THE CREW: There is a lot of hustle and bustle during the festival with many volunteers, artists, and guests coming and going at stage access points. Main Stage Access crew ensures folks with the proper accreditation are accessing these areas including Main Stage, Green Room, and Session Stages.

THE CREW: Music & Merch Access focuses on our bag check area and loss prevention in the Music & Merch tent. This crew focuses on patron interaction.

  • Manage bag check, entry and exits in Music & Merch tent
  • Keep an eye on general area and provide support to other crews as needed

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 18 years of age

THE CREW: Nighthawks focuses on overnight security during our site build, festival weekend, and teardown operations, and mitigate the risk of property loss.

THE REQUIREMENTS:

THE CREW: Volunteer Gate Access crew manages all gates utilized by volunteers, artists and guests.

  • Ensure alcohol doesn't leave the site
  • Assist with end-of-night exit

Youth

Volunteers ages 12-17 are generally placed on one of the crews included here. Additional opportunities on other crews are available on a case-by-case basis once youth are 16 years of age.

THE CREW: This team of mighty youth make Gallagher Park look brand new each morning following the festival (Friday through Monday).

THE TASKS:

  • Make the hill spotless

  • Be between the ages of 12 - 15

  • Ability to work as a part of a team

The CREW: Our volunteers have each other’s backs at the Folk Fest. Some positions are away from the action and require constant attention. The Perimeter Support crew is there to ensure these volunteers stay hydrated and comfortable.

The JOB:

  • Deliver beverages, snacks, messages and other required items to and from these crew members.

The MUSTS:

  • Be between the ages of 15-17
