Of the almost 600 people who filled out the survey, 202 had attended less than 10 years; 245 had attended 15 years or more.
Artist suggestions were plentiful – over 1000 different artists were suggested – and quite varied, a testament to the musical knowledge and breadth of the musical tastes of folk fest patrons. There were many suggestions of artists we have had before and of course, many that we would love to have in the future. While we don’t have the space to publish the entire list, the following are artists who were suggested 10 or more times:
Mumford and Sons
Great Big Sea
Flight of the Conchords
Show of Hands
Other patron comments:
There were many comments about improving the lottery and line-up procedures. We’re working on it and hope to have things flowing more smoothly. Quite a few patrons were interested in more shade, more water available on-site – both drinking water and a way to cool off, like a mist station – and many of you are anxiously awaiting a totally non-smoking site. There seemed to be a strong emphasis on crowd etiquette, including stronger enforcement of the high backed chair limits and no smoking areas, and a strong urging for simple courtesy and quiet in the tarp areas.
Two music-related items – reducing sound bleed and making the middle screen digital are already being addressed and we think folks will be pleased. There were also many suggestions for more workshops, and encouraging more collaboration in workshops. Technology related suggestions included creating an iPhone App for the festival, and having on-site wireless. Porta Potties were another hot topic with people wanting more at a number of different spots.
The Folk Festival will look at all the suggestions made on the surveys and will work towards making the festival an even better experience for everyone.
